Cuban Coffee Cubita

Cuban Coffee

Cuban Coffee – Famous all of the world, the aroma, flavor and texture of real Cuban Coffee is just perfect. Known for its sharp aftertaste and rich fully body, Cuban Coffee is now making a comeback. After years of languishing behind Blue Mountain from Jamaica, Cuba Coffee is returning to specialist gourmet stores worldwide under the name Cubita. Cubita Coffee is served all over Cuba, especially in Hotels and tourist destinations. However, due to the high price of the Cubita export variety in relation to local salaries, Cubans buy their beans and grind their own. So, in your Casa Particular or Paladar restaurant, or even on the street, you’ll be sampling the equally excellent home ground coffee beans. The big question is obviously, how do Cubans like their coffee served? Well, we can only say Cuban Coffee is sweet! Yes, they’ll add more sugar (another Cuban product) than you’re used to but hey, you’re in Cuba!

Paladar Restaurants in Cuba

Paladar Dona Eutimia Habana Cuba Havanatur

Paladares in Cuba – These family owned and operated restaurants are now all over the country. Serving real homemade meals at low prices they’ve become extremely popular over the past decade. Finding a Paladar in Havana, Varadero or any Cuban city is now easy. However, due to the lack of national population on the Jardines del Rey Islands they don’t exist. Therefore, if you’re on vacation on say Cayo Coco or Cayo Guillermo etc. you’ll have to visit Caibarien, Ciego de Avila or Remedios to try a paladar. Whenever you visit a paladar you are helping Cuban entrepreneurs realize their dream of business ownership. This is far more significant than when you’re back home, primarily because it has only been a few years since Cubans have been able to own and operate their own businesses. Give them a try and feel the satisfaction of aiding Cubans with their autonomy and private businesses. See a complete list of towns and cities with Cuban Paladares.

Harley Davidson Motorcycles in Cuba

Harley Davidson Motorcycles in Cuba – If you’re into classic Harleys, Cuba has something in store for you. Every Saturday evening the Harley Club of Havana or, as they call themselves, Harlistas Cubanos, meet at the La Piragua intersection below the Hotel Nacional on the Havana Malecon. Heading over there from 4pm onwards will treat you to some beautifully restored vintage Harleys from the 1940 and 50s but, more importantly, their pleasant owners are a true delight to be around. They’ll assist with photos and let kids sit on their machines. Overall they’re a great bunch of guys (and girls actually) who are extremely proud of their bikes. Once considered an emblem of United States Imperialism, these motorcycles were rarely seen on Cuban roads. Fortunately, these days their owners proudly display their machines to everyone. Over past few years, there’s even been a Vintage Harley Davidson rally which takes place in February and features a get-together in Varadero, 120KM (75 miles) from Havana.

Rice and Black Beans Cuba Frijoles

Rice and Black Beans is Cuba! – Yes, if you haven’t eaten this national dish called Arroz con Frijoles yet it’s because you haven’t yet visited Cuba. Why? Well because just about every single meal in Cuba includes this delicious blend of carbohydrates and bean protein. In order to get the thick sauce the Cuban do what is called “Cuajar” which is to leave the beans on a low light for hours until some have disintegrated into the water. Others with less patience use a blender to bring part of the bean batch to a paste form, then add this to the rest, providing the instant mud like texture true Cuban frijoles sauce should have.
